Some Recent News About Malaria

S.C.O.R.E is suggesting that all travelers consult with their physicians about prophylactic treatment of malaria.

At this time, it is NOT MANDATORY to have immunizations to travel in the Dominican Republic.  See "What about immunizations?" on the Senior Trip FAQs.

S.C.O.R.E. states that it is always their policy to recommend that travelers contact their local physician and health department and discuss travel plans when traveling to any foreign country.

S.C.O.R.E. recommends plenty of mosquito repellant with at least 50% DEET.  Permethrin is also effective and non-toxic to humans, used along with DEET.  These products can be purchased from most sporting goods shops.

FYI: The mosquitoes that carry the disease are active in the early morning and at dusk.  We are not in the interior of the country during any of those times.

If senior parents are interested in the Typhoid vaccine for their student and have been unable to find it, RMB pharmacy at Riverside hospital has it.

They will need a script from their physician to pick it up and then the pharmacy can fill the order and they can return to their physician to have it given.

The address for RMB is 3545 Olentangy River Road (the pharmacy is in the north office building by the green garage)   The phone number is 614-566-4177
